Thanks Max and Joanne, I've updated again today (I'm hosting the NRC QO100 net on 489,760 at the moment) and all is good, so who knows what the issue was?

Regards,

Roger (G8VLR)

I guess the way forward is to try a different mic. Maybe best to try an analogue mic via soundcard input, and see if you get the same issues? The point being to confirm whether this is an issue with the mic hardware or an issue with SDRC.

Also with anything USB, personally I always make sure to go through every one of the USB ports on Windows Device Manager and make sure to turn the power management off. Seems to me if this is not done USB ports can go to sleep even when they are in use.

Have you remedied the apparent overdrive on the microphone?

Joanne, I think we've had this conversation on the Group before (generally I mean, not personally) and pretty sure Simon has confirmed (and I certainly find it to be the case) that the term "ALC" for that meter is a bit of a misnomer. It's more of a "drive level" indication. Certainly I need to peak mine for a full 100% to get any usable level of audio. In terms of distortion, I then monitor the TX audio scope in the TX DSP panel, set to Envelope rather than Spectrum (which is what's set in Roger's picture). It then becomes very clear if there's any flat-topping/clipping of the audio on the envelope (with no PROC/compression applied).

With PROC set to "on" it's even possible to have a little flat-topping and yet the TX audio is still very good, as verified by recording my own signal, either from a local receiver or from a more distant webSDR. These are my findings anyway.

Roger, if you send another screenshot please set the TX DSP scope to Envelope rather than Spectrum, although as I say, a bit of flat-topping is not necessarily an indication of poor audio quality.

It is if you are listening on an adjacent frequency and the bursts of overdrive interfere with your activities.

I wonder if Roger is over subscribed at the USB bus level. Stepping down the sample rates might prove useful at least as a test.

Thanks both, I'll try a few tests as suggested. I get great audio reports on tx and the issue on the latest version of sdrc is intermittent. I tried the tx several times on the day I installed the update, with several hours between tests and all good. Tried the following day and no mic audio. Each test was from cold (i.e. pc off and no power to the QO100 box).

Thanks for your persistence!

Roger G8VLR.

Is something else running on that machine grab the microphone for anything? It may be a one at a time item.

Ah, has the PC had time to find the microphone? Has it found the microphone before you run SDRC? That might cover your issues in #18. It might not cover lost mid-QSO issues. That might be a lost Bluetooth signal or something like that. RF in the shack could cause that.

Glad to say that with v3.4 the problem has gone away. Now on the latest build :-)
