TX Audio Bandwidth

#1

Unread post by Simon G4ELI »

Had a report that ESSB is not working, specifically audio bandwidth is restricted to 4 kHz.

This may be a DUO setting, will check. Other radios such as Pluto are working OK with bandwidths > 4 kHz.

Lets try again..this is 3rd time ..giving up after this..
I have just released your posts now I'm awake :)

The radio can do 6kHz, but its a firmware setting, mainly aimed at AM but it is possible, although Franco likes to stay within the legal limits of the licensing authorities. I'll see what we can do

There will be some wideband modes people may wish to use. 6 kHz is fine for SSB/AM but what about narrow FM - I'm using a Q5 Signal transverter with the DUO and in theory may wish to have FM QSOs. Going up to higher bands via transverters and the options increased.

Thanks for looking into this Simon and Paul.
It certainly would be nice if the Duo's internal menu had wider settings as well. I had the pleasure of meeting Franco at the ARRL 100th Anniversary show (2014). We discussed this topic and I thought an update would soon be in the works. I subsequently made a request or two on the message board but have since given up. Hopefully this gets done!
