3.0.25 Stuttering R2

#1

Unread post by N5NHJ »

Just installed 3.0.25, running it locally connected to an R2.
The audio is stuttering. Back to 3.0.24 everything is fine.

The CPU usage is higher than I would like, so try reducing the FFT: Ribbon Bar, View, Waterfall, Resolution and select a Reduced option.

What is the CPU?

CPU is Intel Core I5-3317U, 1.7 GHz, 2 Cores, 4 Virtual processors., 4GB RAM.
Reducing the FFT doesn't have much impact on the CPU usage.

Running the R2 with 3.0.24 loads the CPU up to 15%, compared to 25% when running 3.0.25.
I tested an RSPdx, no issues with both 3.0.24 and 3.0.35. CPU load is less than 1%.

Looking at the code I am sure I can reduce the load.

So, spent some time on this, looks good. I'll test on my own 1st gen i5 laptop later this morning, then post a couple of DLLs here for you to try.

I do not have any PM yet, I'll test as soon as I get the kit.

Hi,

I used the PM in this forum. Will resend just in case I sent it to the wrong person.

Simon,
The Kit fixed the issue. For your reference, here it is a table with the CPU usage for the R2 using the latest kits, measured at 10MHz (highest) and 312.5kHz (lowest) BW:

KIT 10MHz 312.5 kHz
----------------------------------------
3.0.24 35% 18%
3.0.25 33% 29%
3.0.26 33% 6%

As an extra information, the stuttering shown by 3.0.25 is not present (very strange) at 10MHz and 5MHz BW while the CPU was still heavily loaded, even more.
Loading the CPU was probably not the only issue, but everything is fine now.
Thanks

Thanks - I changed some filtering between 3.0.24 and 3.0.25 which used more CPU. For 3.0.26 I applied some brain-power as well :) .
