QRN or Something Else
Re: QRN or Something Else
The first one is the AGC for the radio hardware itself, mostly regulating the gain in the frontend and/or in the IF part of the radio.SteveKH6CT wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 2:21 pm I noticed that too, Kriss. What I really don't understand is why I have an AGC selection on the ribbon bar (set to OFF) and also an AGC selection in the DSP panel (set to ON). But then, I grew up with "glass valves", so that may lead to my not understanding.

The one in the DSP regulates the signal at the software side, not sure if this is still in the data stream or thereafter (demodulated audio).
Re: QRN or Something Else
btw i don't have a RSP1 so i can't help comparing, but maybe check if you are both using the same SDRplay radio selection in SDRC... v2 or v3?
Re: QRN or Something Else
Just loaded 3.0.27 onto local machine here. Still no Radio AGC on/off on my SDRPlay RSP1A, via a server.
Server is still running 3.036
Will update it to 3.0.27 and see if it allows Radio AGC on/off

No change at remote site with v3.0.27 either.

Re: QRN or Something Else
It's a front end thing. If your front end can support an AGC function internal to its box that can be controlled then you get buttons and selections related to it. The rtlsdr dongles are an example. Other front ends very sensibly avoid AGC and can, with effort, be calibrated and adjusted to favor low noise, high dynamic range, or compromises.
Into which category does the SDRPlay RSP1A fall? Maybe it should not show that selection.
