AFEDRI update (copy from groups.io)

#1

Unread post by sm6fhz »

Copy from Groups.io "Test Report 3.0.24 AFEDRI additions" of July 23, 2020 in order to get it into the contemporary communication of proposals for future additions.

My question is if these proposals, or parts of, could possibly be included in the 3.0.25 release?

Dear Simon and Test Team.
Thanks for inviting me to the Test Team. This would be my first posting here.

I have played with SDRC 3.0.24 Build 1935 with focus on the AFEDRI updates, Visual gain and the reintroduction of 1.3333 MHz sampling rate.
I have used it running on my Dell Precision 7520 Core i7-6920HQ 32GB 512GB FHD IPS Quadro M2200 together with my AFEDRI while working 23cm EME. An "in combat" test.
As a general statement Build 1935 has worked flawlessly all weekend as a panoramic receiver.

1. Reintroduction of 1.33333 MHz sampling rate works as expected and as before, in other words; excellent. Thanks Simon.

2. Introduction of "Visual Gain" for the AFEDRI.
a. AFEDRI in Network-mode:
The Visual Gain works as expected with no problems.
One observation: In Network-mode only RF-gain is available together with the Visual Gain. In USB-mode IF-gain and RF-gain is available.See attached screenshots.
Is there a reason for not having both IF-gain and RF-gain available in both modes of the AFEDRI?

b. AFEDRI in USB-mode:
No Visual Gain is available. Only IF-gain and RF-gain. Would it be possible to have Visual Gain available in USB-mode as well?

One general observation regarding Visual Gain: Increasing Visual Gain increases the volume in the speakers in the same way as increasing the RF-gain would do. I was under the impression that the Visual Gain would only act on the amplitude level scale making it possible to adjust the amplitude scale to fit to an calibrated input signal.
Would it be possible to have a true "displayed amplitude adjustment knob" as well? Like just shifting the amplitude scale up and down without any other implications. Just dragging them up and down to get the wanted value when calibrating?

Answer from Simon:

Hi,

Visual Gain is actually Digital Gain. Audio can be louder.

I didn’t make any changes to Afedri USB.

As for other suggestion – later maybe, I agree than a more centralised approach is needed.
