Hi, Simon:

Do you intend to implement a 64MHz bandwidth for the RX-888?

Other friends...

I recently built a Ryzen 9 5950X/64GB computer. I'm now looking for a capable USB 3.1 PCIe card.

Does anyone have any experience with or know anything about these?

Cheaper and seems good enough, incl USB C connector, power cable, 2 extra ports...
Whatever you choose, the card needs the extra powersupply so don't buy one without that power connector.

I use the four controller version of the StarTech card. I don't have an Rx-888 but it works nicely with everything I have tried. In theory it can run a total throughput of four times USB 3.1 throughput, full throughput on each controller. If one port is "used up" by something like an AirSpy R2 the other three ports are still available at their full bandwidth and speed.

Joanne:

This (link below, the 4-controller version) is actually what I had saved in my Amazon list saved on 09/20/20.

Is this what you have?

I am not an expert by any means, so Joanne knows better for sure, but to my layman's eye I would say it's likely not comparing like with like. The Newegg card looks like maybe one controller with all 7 ports shared, or at least some port sharing, whereas the Startech is two controllers with two independent ports per controller, so each of the four ports is totally isolated won't get choked by one device sucking all the data bandwidth from one port. Is that anything like correct Joanne?

Max, that is why I made my comment. The expensive card may or may not be needed. It depends on your uses. I went overboard. I have the StarTech 4 controller (one per port) card. Then since I had it and didn't need it in an older computer I have an earlier version of the Startech controller made another company that seems to have vanished. (They are not exactly the same.) I don't really need that. So if I see some other card I want to put in someday I can switch.

Two controllers might be just fine. (I wonder if two RX888s can be used at once on the same computer with a pair of SDRC instances.) A two controller card plus the nice 3.2 I have on this machine should be enough for people not far gone silly like me. Figure out your usage and work from there.

Hi, Joanne:

I think Max was just replying on my behalf. Even though the 2-controller card is more expensive, I ordered the 4-controller card just because it seems that the 4 controllers is more a benefit than the USB 3.2.

It should be here today and I'll hopefully get it in tonight and check it out.

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm using one of THESE on mine and it works well. Audio sounds good with no nasty clicking and it decodes FT8 with upto 46MHz bandwidth although I rarely run it that wide, this is on an i9-10850 using the extio in SDR#.

I did request the improved bandwidth back in April but no replies so I've stuck with Sharp as most of my listening is above 30MHz.

The 4-controller card cured all of my problems. Thanks everyone.
