RX888 Mk2 - Import charges to UK?

#1

Unread post by Max »

Sorry, not a technical question.

Just wondered if anyone purchased the RX888 Mk2 on AliExpress from China for import to the UK and if so did it arrive with any extra charges to pay? Listings generally say free shipping to UK but wonder if it then gets trapped by UK Customs or extra scam charges....... errr..... I mean "handling" charges from dear old Royal Mail, or other carrier?

I was looking a this one:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002161751181.html

At $185.99 it is literally a whisper under the new £135 upper limit for VAT and import duty so in there there should be no charges I believe?.

Thanks for looking.

Don't know how things go in the UK now (after brexit) but the Netherlands adds only VAT on radio's (RX and/or TX), so no import duty.

The Brexit 🤢🤮changes only affect imports from EU countries, so I would imagine parcels from China would be treated the same as before.

Mine arrived a few weeks ago and like most packages from China was marked down for customs value. Mine came through as a 'module' worth $20 on the CN22 form so didn't attract the attention of UK customs.

OK many thanks. What I suspected! I theory it should just scrape in under the new £135 level for no charges, but it's very close at current exchange rates and did not want to be "clobbered" for the sake of 50p over!

Did you get charged VAT on top of the advertised price? When I bought a low value ackage three weeks ago the order page clearly stated that Aliexpress collected VAT of 20% for the UK Govt - which is what they are supposed to do for items less than £135 in value. This was shown before I paid for the order - so nothing hidden. And my item was marked "gift".
Today the cheapest I saw it with discount was £136.50 with free shipping, a MkI RX-888 was going for £120 from TZT.

For info - latest price on banggood.com states "inclusive of VAT" and is £158.21 for a MkII. Which works out as just over £131 ex VAT and so is below the customs duty threhold - so there should be no charges to pay.

Sorry Dave, I didn't see your reply from March! I didn't get charged VAT on top but some other orders I've placed have been subject to it. I'm not really sure how Aliexpress works, I thought they were charging it on everything but maybe they allow other companies to sell through them for which they don't add VAT?

I've just rechecked the seller who I bought from (it might even be Justin as he was linking to this one) and there was VAT added on the confirm and pay page. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002133979911.html
