Hi,
Not important, but was playing around with the built in digital decoder.
Have the mode set to USB
Tried PSK (all of them) at:
1.838
3.580
7.040
10.141
and RTTY at:
3.590
7.043
10.143
Lots of digits appearing, but all gibberish.
Any hints on how to do it, or what I am missing or not doing ? Settings e.g. ?
Any "active" frequencies I should also try ?
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Digital Decoding Problems
Hi Bob
You have correct frequencies for amateur radio stuff.
Not a huge amount of PSK around these days. Struggle to find a signal a lot of the time.
RTTY Settings: See attached picture. I just used Simon's HF+ on server to get the picture as I have QRM here at moment. Decoded IT9AQR as you can see.
Set mode USB (bandwidth/filter setting unimportant except for audio to listen to - does not affect decode..... neither actually does the mode. It's just that selecting USB makes it easier to place the signal in the decoder window).
In decoder (see pic). "Rev" deselected (i.e Normal selected) works for most signals. Sometimes tones are reversed by the TX op.
45.45 Baud, Bits 5-1, Shift 170 Hz
Tune RTTY signal in middle of USB bandwidth (Just for interest sake I have custom filter for RTTY, bandwidth 0 Hz to 800Hz to listen to signal)
Data signal appears left end of the Digital Decoder window. Using mouse, move the decode cursor to align with the two tones of the RTTY.
PSK - As above but is a single tone. Norm/Rev does not apply. Just set correct speed. Could be PSK31 or PSK62 these days. Trial and error. Signal has almost imperceptible warbling sound. Not to be confused with FT8 of which there is always loads of activity at all times.
Good luck!

Bob
Example of commercial RTTY this time (attached)
DDK 2 Meteo on 4583, again using Simon's server HF+ Discovery radio.
50 Baud - 425 Hz shift. Note this one DOES need Reverse selected.

Re: Digital Decoding Problems
Hi,
As always, much thanks for the hints and suggestions.
Will play around with them.
I'm a rue beginner with "digital", but always looking to try new items.
Wondering if Simon has any plans on expanding the built in digital modes decoders. Hope so.
For me, it's a lot easier than playing around with VAC's etc.
Really nice to have them.
Stay well, and thanks for help,
Regards,
Bob

Hi Bob
Just listened on 20m and can hear there is an RTTY contest on today (BARTG Sprint?) so is full of RTTY stations to practice on:
