As discussed in https://sdr-radio.groups.io/g/main/message/61015, using this relay board is exactly what I want to do as well. I do not want to add another computer/usb dependency to the radio setup by using a USB relay, if it can be avoided.
Have you thought whether you will be tackling this issue?

install fw from evariste ... that switches ptt relay
