3.0.27 - FFT overloading GPU

#1

Unread post by LuisNJUSA »

Installed version 3.0.27 on my VAIO laptop running Windows 10 64-bit and GPU is NVIDIA GT 540M
After installation, FFT on HF stopped working. After a couple of minutes the GPU crashed and Windows disabled the GPU.

Note: I had no issues like that with version 3.0.26

I tried just to reinstall version 3.0.26 without uninstalling 3.0.27 (downgrade). The same issue persists.
I guess I will have to try a clean install.
Any ideas?

Post full size image of the main screen, and additional images of floating windows associated with SCRConsole.

Meanwhile, what bandwidth are you trying to use? What source? What sample rate? All that good stuff.

I was able to capture a sequence of screenshots until the GPU crashed.
You can also see the Task Manager screen open showing how the memory kept increasing.

The source is a RTL-SDR V3 dongle.
Bandwidth before was 2.4 MHz and then I reduced to 1Mhz and the issues happened the same way.
It looks like the issue happens when I tune to HF frequencies.

NOTE: Version 3.0.26 was working just fine.

I just installed 3.0.27 without uninstalling 3.0.26.
I tried uninstalling 3.0.27, and going back to 3.0.26 but it is now working correctly as well.
So I installed 3.0.27 compiled on March/25 but the issue persists.

My first reaction when a system shows symptoms of overheating like this is to open it up and use a paintbrush to make sure the CPU & GPU heatsinks are free of dust.

The system is not overheating. I said "overloading" memory. I seems like there is a memory leak happening within the application somewhere and it eventually crashes the GPU.

I'm not sure SDRC can be happy in a machine with only 2 Gigabytes of memory. Probably some of the added features have pushed it beyond what your tiny little system can support.

The PC has 8Gb of RAM. And as I said before, version 3.0.26 was running just fine. The whole issues appeared when I installed 3.0.27.
Here is a more complete view of my system configuration. Complete DxDiag.txt attached.

**Update**
I did a complete uninstall, including manually removing the \AppData\Roaming\SDR-RADIO.com (V3) folder.
And then installed the most recent kit, 3.0.27 build 2190.
Everything seems to be working fine now, in regards to the memory leak. :D
I have noticed a minor bug in the "Memories" tab, but that is something else for a different thread.
I will keep testing.
