Support for user plugins

Unread post by autodiagcz »

it would be good to move with the times and sell support for user plugins for example in the popular QT

a few features are very lacking, for example:
- RAW IQ data output
- UDP/TCP data output (audio, IQ, behind demodulator, etc.)
- scanner of both stored frequencies in the database and bandwidth tracking from-to
- various demodulators
etc etc

I think that the SDRConsole project would gain even more popularity as for example the promising SDR++ project which can be easily written plug-ins and some interesting ones are already available for download

Hi Martin

Can only go by what Simon has said a few times before. AFAIK he has no intention of allowing plug-ins. I think this is because he would forever be chasing issues with compatibility of plug-ins that would not be within his control. His answer in the past has been, if you prefer SDR++ or SDR Uno then use those and not SDRC.

SDRC has been honed more towards Simon's own requirements and so tends to attract users with similar requirements, primarily ham radio operators (including Sat ops) and SWLs. Scanning has been requested but it's not a priority for that type of user.

It's not immediately obvious, but raw IQ data output is available using the CW Skimmer VAC output:

You can also make data recordings for analysis if required:

Various demodulators? Not totally sure what you mean. If you mean built in decoders for data modes, SDRC has a built-in decoder for RTTY and PSK:
https://www.sdr-radio.com/digital-decoder

For CW decoding, I know that Simon has talked about adding a decoder, but third party software is excellent and so many choices. The free CW decoder from WD6CNF is excellent:

https://www.eham.net/reviews/view-product?id=6771

Not sure why just the most recent review says it's a resource hog. Total nonsense. I can verify it's very lightweight. User must have had an issue with their particular PC/installation.

For other modes (WEFAX/SITOR/AMTOR/FT4/FT8/WSPR you name it) the decoders are free and numerous and are "standards" that everyone uses (FLDIGI, WSJT-X, VarAC, YaND etc. etc). Much better to use those as they are in constant development for their specific purposes and already have full support at a level where in general it would be a waste of Simon's time to write specific built in decoders (IMHO). I know he has stated that after a very long slog, tens of thousands of hours of coding over several years of having got SDRC to the Release Version of 3.3 that he is now working on other projects for himself so further significant developments of SDRC are unlikely in the shorter term at any rate. All preceding comments my take on it only of course. Simon may come here himself and comment otherwise!
