If you were primarily interested in LF/MF/HF then I would have strongly recommended the HF+ Discovery as being the superior choice, but if you also want VHF/UHF coverage then the RSPdx is the best option of the SDR Play lineup to go for (IMHO).

Anyway, it should be a big step up from the RTL-SDR for sure. Have fun with it.

Airspy HF+ Discovery:

Just be aware of lower sampling bandwidth (912kHz) compared to the SDR Play devices, but if you are concentrating on LF/MF/HF listening, especially if you are a serious DXer one band at a time then this is pretty much unsurpassed at the price.

RSPdx more of an "allrounder" which also gives listening on VHF/UHF. I believe it's also reasonable on the AM bands unlike some of their other models. I am sure it will be perfectly OK for you unless you have a very strong AM broadcast station near you.

I'm running 3.2 so maybe that's why I don't have that.

Ah, explains much. TBH I would never bother with the "Release" version of SDRC. Always use the latest Beta:

https://www.sdr-radio.com/download#Beta

No need to uninstall anything. Just install over the top of 3.2.

The Beta that is posted on the website (linked above) has always been thoroughly tested by the Test Team for usually several weeks before it's posted for download. I can assure you it's not only totally safe to run but also highly recommended because there are actually bug fixes and many other features that are not in 3.2.

Good luck.

Hello Bob. Did you install the Beta of SDR Console as I suggested (3.3). I understand that there have been some recent issue detecting the RSPdx in version 3.2.

Also make sure that the RSPdx is fed ideally from a USB port on your PC, but if not, from a powered USB hub. I understand there can also be some issues from lack of power to SDR Play receivers, so needs a good supply of power to the USB input. You could also try different USB cables that might help.

However, it's most likely a software issue so definitely try the 3.3 Beta.
