Sound Quality Terrible - clipping?

#1

Unread post by VK4KYT »

Hi all,
I have a RTL-SDR V4 and trying to use it with SDR Console V3 on a Win 11 laptop.
I've spent time familiarizing myself with the software and now trying to listen to incoming signals.

The problem is that the sound is terrible. It sounds like the audio is clipping.

I've searched the web, and found many reports of the same issue. I've tried all the suggested fixes without success. I've tried giving a higher priority to the process I've tried to analyze the problem and come up with my own solutions, also without success.
If I use SDRSharp software, no problems.
Now, curiously, if I record the audio and play it back, it sounds perfect, but direct listening either through the laptop speakers or my Bluetooth headphones is always distorted.

Is there a fix for this issue?

Many thanks in advance.

Luke

Be sure to include the DSP panel and DO NOT CROP IMAGE!
Attach image saved from SDRC via the “Full Editor” option below the text box.

On all modes? Frequency?

As Kriss says. Please post an uncropped attachment of a screenshot taken with the SDRC Screenshot tool. In Ribbon Bar (at top) make sure Home tab is selected. Also make sure that RX DSP is visible docked on the left of screen and that we can see the Mode, Filter and AGC panel settings.

Can assure you RTL-SDR V4 works fine (within its limitations) with SDRC if settings correct.

One thing to do is make sure you do not have the gain on the rtl dongle cranked up all the way. 14dB to 19dB gain is usually about right. Max is right - post a clear picture showing as many of the settings as possible. Attach it rather than attempt placing it inline with the text.
