USB RELAY LIST TROUBLE

#1

Unread post by IK2NBU »

Ciao,

I have a problem with USB relay list recognition with SDR Consol, and The "refresh list" command has no effect.

It's not due to the relays, which are identical.
If I swap the USB connections, the problem persists.
It's not a USB cable issue.
It happens both when connecting them directly to the PC or via USB extension.
I restarted the software SDR Consol both with the relays already recognized by WIN11 and also with the relays turned off. Nothing changes.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Unfortunately that may not be possible. Unless the relays have a unique feature they may come up from a computer reboot in different orders in the various lists. I have experienced this with several models of USB audio devices. It is highly frustrating. The only workaround that works is two similar devices from different companies with different VID/PID values so they can be distinguished one from the other.

There are SOME manufacturers that use the USB "serial number" option. I've not heard of a USB relay board doing that.

I've also tried USB relays from different companies. Individually, the cards are recognized by SDR Console, but if I use both, it only sees one. With the old version of the software, it saw them all without problems. Can I try downgrading SDR Console?

Disconnect wires so nothing goes out over the air. Then try transmit and receive. Do relays on both boards do something if you have configurations for both boards? You can set different delays long enough you should be able to hear the relays click on the two boards. You can also ohm meter the relays to see if they have switched. That is what the instructions read like when I parse it carefully.

Or am I being a silly B.... thinking you'd not done that already and were stuck on misinterpretations and assumptions?

OK, word from Simon is that you get one card only. So you can control up to 8 relays and that's it.

Simon designed it the way he did. We're all stuck with that. It's his software. You might put another relay in the chain. Or work surgery on the board and isolate the relays from the board's ground. That might be a problem with two USB boards. They might propagate the system ground to the board ground. So if you need isolation it should be doable but may require some trace cutting, if the boards don't already isolate all contacts from each other and ground.

After a lot of searching I build a small gadget which is a PTT button and an indication of the TX status.
It uses the Relay function of SDR Console. A small movie (sorry for the bad quality):

This week I will do some more tests if it is stable enough. If people want to build this, I will provide the code. You will need VSCode and Platformio.
