Help with tx latency elad duo

#1

Unread post by Mag loop Simon »

Hello

Wondering if I can reduce the tx latency on my elad duo.
It takes circa 1/2 second from talking to audio being transmitted by duo.( and a whole 1 sec to appear in my headphones if I monitor tx audio.)

Is this normal?? I understand there will be latency but 1/2 sec is rather too long when trying to time a call in a dx pile up on 40m..( with all the fellow europeans running 1.5kw and 3 ele monoband yagis..) infact its a hinderence...not a real problem on 160 and 80 as i can put out a signal to equal most ( if not beat.) so always get heard..

Pc is intel i5 2330 ( 4 core.) at 3ghz
Ram 8gb ddr3
Graphics trying to use nvidia gtx 1050 but thats not working so well (error 43.) so back to on board graphics.
Sdrc v3.25 ( same issue on 24.)
Tx delay set for 10ms on sdrc.
Sdrc reports cpu use from 7-23% ( varies, goes higher when scrolling across waterfall changing frequency.)
Sdrc reports audio at 5-30 ms..again varies for no apparent reason ( to me atleast.) but usually circa 20ms..

Is there anything one can do to reduce the latency??( please dont tell me a need to spend £1000 on a new pc, because that will not be happening..not unless I want a divorce!)
Would a screen shot help? If so of what?

Thank you for reading..

Hi,

First make sure your DUO has the latest firmware. Please add screenshots so I see the configuration etc. with the DUO running in receive. I'm sure we'll find the problem.

Please be more specifc and will put them up.

ok..that didnt go to plan..i opened some windows, but they closed as i hit screenshot button. AND will not allow me to screenshot open windows..ie performance...

elad is running on 1.536 mhz bandwidth.audio in is via vb bananna (as using the noise gate function, but makes no difference if i use mic in via realtek.
Audio in is via wired headset into mic in on pc.

Mic is going via Voicemeeter. That will add delay. Any reason not to select soundcard mic input direct to SDRC audio in instead of via Voicemeeter? I would guess it is to raise mic level? By the way, I do the same thing with HL2 to get enough audio drive. But if this is the reason I think you have more mic boost available within SDRC? Another 10dB, instead of using Voicemeeter?

Also, take a look at this if not already familiar. Audio card driver choice (if there is any) can make quite large differences to the latency:

Use ASIO whenever possible.

CPU load is high, that's not going to help. Fix your PC, get the video card working.

Hello

What is regarded as a reasonable cpu use level?

Thanks

Not sure what is considered reasonable but I have a 10 years old plus i7 desktop PC and just ran it with one receiver. I am seeing CPU load around 0.8%. GPU 3.5%. Audio around 20 ms.

HOWEVER I do have GTX 1650 Super GPU (excellent - highly recommended) enabled for CUDA.

At the very least I would get your GPU sorted out so that you can let it take some of the heavy lifting. 1050 I am sure should be perfectly good for SDRC anyway.

1650 Super can be had for about £160 (GBP):

I have the EVGA version and it runs totally silent but all pretty good I think.
