Tuning
Re: Tuning
Hi Nick
This subject has been debated before. Feature to tune with cursor keys was introduced at my request. Initially in the first test version it did tune with keys active at all times and must admit that was by far the version I preferred. In fact I loved it. I just forget now why Simon modified to only work with cursor over the spectrum/waterfall. However, I must say I am with you. When I tested the version with cursor keys active at all times I much preferred it!
The reason not to have active at all times I seem to recall had something to do with activating drop-down box menus but I forget exactly. However, "cursor keys active for tune at all times" is the case with Web SDR for example (with tick box to enable) and I never have any issues with it at all. I did suggest to Simon that for those who prefer it he might introduce a tick-box to enable it or disable as preferred. Simon? Any chance to revisit this suggestion?

Re: Tuning
Nooooooooo! That would destroy a very useful function for every other slider in the system.

Re: Tuning
How and why Joanne?! And also what's wrong with having a "tick box" option to enable/disable as per user's preference?

Re: Tuning
No, they cannot. For accessibility reasons sliders have settings for using from the keyboard. Control and Shift with the arrow keys is already defined for controlling the currently active slider. I very often use the arrow keys to set volume controls as signal levels blast my ears or weak audio leaves me wanting more.
When this change was made "recently" in an SDR program I put my copy on a trash dongle, wrapped it in lead foil, dunked it in wax, repeated the wrapping and waxing to 7 pairs of layers, then took it to a crossroads, dug a 6' deep hole in the middle of the crossroads, placed the dongle in the bottom of that hole, drove a fire hardened oaken stake through its heart pinning it down, and back filled the the hole.

Re: Tuning
For the life of me, I've just tried adjusting the sliders with the arrow keys and no success whatsoever. How do you do this Joanne? Tried hovering cursor over slider etc. but no luck at all this end.
Also, if the sliders need "Ctrl-Shift" to adjust, why would that be affected by having plain vanilla arrow keys active for frequency at all times? Surely Ctrl-Shift would override this for the sliders (except I can't even get that to work).
Lastly, what's wrong with having a tick box to enable "arrow keys active at all times for tuning" for those of us that do prefer it? Those that like it as it is can simply leave box unticked. What would be wrong with that?

Re: Tuning
So I see. Then that functionality is broken in SDRC so it might as well be broken all the way with Nick's non-solution.

Re: Tuning
Phew. Thought it was me going mad!
So goes back to my original suggestion about 18 months ago. I still think the "tick-box to enable always active" function would give everyone what thy want!
Also have no aversion to the frequency entry idea, so long as the current method for entry in khz as default can also be accepted as an entry. For us HF type the khz entry is easy. For the GHz gang then I agree, the addition of the relevant letter as a shortcut is a nice touch.
Danger here of two different issues getting mixed up in one post. Hope Simon can read this whole thread once his builders have gone!
