You still need to put your mouse or hand on the correct item to get the frequency to change. And, which frequency are you demanding be changed? Is it active receiver, front end frequency, all receivers, converter offset, .....
Sometimes it is best to indulge in telling the software what you want to do in proper detail than rely on the good old "DWIM" option, which is terribly sensitive to the order in which it is applied.
(Decades ago PutriDOS (C)* was a big thing. It was coded up by some men stranded on a desert island. When they were found they had all the code written in the sand above high-high tide. They spend awhile applying the code as little magnetic patches to floppy disk media. For awhile it had a very active /DWIM flag. However it was confusing and later removed after a series of strange accidents such as "gosub /DWIM" instantly translating the computer from its current position to the nearest submarine. It also was funky with things like "FORTRAN /DWIM source.for" vs "FORTRAN source.for /DWIM" The former used the BASIC interpreter you obviously intended to use. The second had the FORTRAN compiler trying to compile the source.for file translated on input to source.bas. Neither worked very well.)
* PutriDOS (C) is a creation of one Thomas Digby some ages ago. He is still the president of the "Putridos (C) Users Group", PUG, the last I knew.

Tuning
Re: Tuning

I'm not going to add much to what I already said. I for one think Simon's done a superb job on the ergonomics compared to other SDR programs, plus he is always open to "reasonable" suggestions, stopping well short of a total re-design of course. For that people can consider writing their own software from scratch + maintain it in the face of tens of different (often conflicting) requests per day!
Not that familiar with SDR# but of course (as far as I last knew) that program is pretty much now operational only with Airspy receivers whereas SDRC caters for a huge number of different hardwares and in general does an excellent job of it, also catering for TX side don't forget, not just receivers, plus satellite tracking and a whole host of other features that initially one may not be aware of, and all from the brain of one single person trying to keep everyone happy on a daily basis.
Regarding the tuning, as far as tuning with the arrow keys you know I agree with you to at least have the option for "always active", but with the current option you do get used to it. I should have mentioned that you can "activate" the arrow keys for tuning at any time by holding down the shift key regardless of cursor position. To be honest I don't use that feature as I find it just as fast to swipe the cursor back over the waterfall. Not ideal, but let's see what Simon says about (hopefully) adding a tick box when he is able to get back on here.
