Anyone Using With An Icom R8600: Mode Displaying ?

Hello,

Using the latest (I think) version.

Using with an Icom R8600

Tunes the radio just fine, and shows the ANT selected, and the tuned freq., from the program on the radio's display as it should.

But, cannot get it to show on the radio's display the MODE.
Changing the mode from the program will not change it on the radio display.

Anyone else with an R8600 experience this ?
Funny, but exactly the same behavior using HDSDR.

Think it is some "quirk" of the radio ?

Not important, just curious.

Thanks,
Bob

Hello Bob

Please see here:
https://www.sdr-radio.com/icom-r8600

In particular it states:
"While in the I/Q mode, the mode is fixed to “USB,” and “AGC” is forcibly turned OFF.
R8600 frequency shows the center frequency (same as SDR Console), not the current VFO frequency."

So no, if it's in remote, control is handed over to the remote software with no synced information on the radio itself.

Hope it helps.

Best

Hi,

Thanks for reply.

That explains it.

But, does that mean Console will "only" talk to my Icom R8600 with the radio
in USB ?

What do I do if I want to use Console and the radio,
but I want, or need, AM or fm, or... ?

Thanks again,
Bob

Hi again Bob

No, don't worry. When using the R8600 connected to SDR Console the thing is to just totally ignore what the front panel of the 8600 says. It's SDR Console that does the decoding of USB, AM, FM or whatever you select in the software.

The reason: When SDRC is controlling the R8600 then all of the decoding (DSP -Digital Signal Processing) inside the 8600 is just bypassed. The 8600 just forwards the IQ data to SDR Console to do the work. All the signal decoding takes place in the SDR Console software. In this mode the R8600 is "dumb", just outputting an IQ data stream to SDR Console. Effectively the display and all the signal processing in the R8600 that comes after the IQ stream becomes redundant hence what it displays on its front panel becomes irrelavent.

Hope it helps.
