SDRPlay RSP2 won't start with V3.2

#1

Unread post by avigdor6 »

After reading the forum existing comments about non-starting, I made sure I have the latest API from SDRUno, and the latest DLL sdrsourcesdrplayv3.dll

The RSP2 is correctly identified by the software. However, "start" does not start the app. Help would be appreciated.

You are running a very old copy of SDRC. Update to the latest release version 3.3. Been a lot of changes since 3.2 several of which affect the SDR Play implementation. Try that then report back if still an issue.

To update simply install this over the top of 3.2. No need to uninstall 3.2 first.

Can you please let us know. Did you press "Select Radio" and then add the RSP2 definitions to the list of radios? If you successfully managed to "Add" the RSP2 then there should be a line in the list of Radio Defintions thta looks like this (RSP2 highlighted)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/15iqFp7 ... sp=sharing

If you do not see an entry like that, what do you see? Please send (attach only - not inserted picture) a screenshot.

Also, does the RSP2 run successfully in SDR Uno?

The radio starts successfully with SDRUno.
Here is the attached list you requested.

Must admit I'm stuck now. Only thing to add is that the RSP radios require quite a lot of power, so they need to be on a PC main USB socket or a powered hub. They can also be a bit fussy about the USB cable. It's certainly worth experimenting with both a different USB socket and also, if you have one, a different cable, even though it runs fine in Uno.

One last question. Have you definitely fully closed SDR Uno when you try and run it in SDRC? I can emulate the issue if I try and start the RSP in SDRC when it's already open in Uno. Maybe take a look in the Windows Task Manager window to make sure there are no processes left over from SDR Uno running in the background that are holding the service open?

And one last last thing..... you mentioned in your first post the sdrsourcesdrplayv3.dll file, but that instruction is nothing to do with the RSP2. It's only needed for the RSPdx R2. You should not have to manually replace or copy any dlls manually to install the RSP2. SDRC has all the files it needs in a fresh installation. Yes, you do need to install the SDR Play installation files, but that's all. Having said that I also downloaded and copied that .dll into my SDRC installtion and it was still fine with the RSP2Pro.

If it can't be made to run Simon may need to see a diagnostic on it. What's the hardware spec of the PC?

Hi,
1) It is plugged in directly to a USB outlet in my desktop.
2) I tried again after rebooting, and also checked task manager. There are no remnant apps running SDR programs of any kind.
3) The desktop is Win 10 fully updated. 8 GB memory. 4 processors AMD Phenom 2.6 GHz processors. It worked fine for SDR Uno and for my Flex 6500.

Happy to collaborate further to get this going.

Thanks, Victor AA5IR

On a lark try rebuilding the rsp2 definition. Old definitions may not be supported in V3.3 et subs. You mention "sdrsourcesdrplayv3.dll" while the definition declares V2.1.

It might also be wise to review the information about RSP2 on Simon's SDR-Radio website where you got the basic download for SDRC and associated spindrift. There might be a firmware version issue or something else of that sort.

Don't over think the installation process and add this and that driver into the mix, especially if it replaces something in the original download.

Suggest following procedure. Firstly, as Joanne says, delete the RSP2 definition from the radio list. Download fresh copy of SDRC from Simon's website (and only Simon's website). If you can remember the dll you copied/pasted, delete it from where you pasted it (SDRC installtion folder?). It should not be needed for this radio. The standard .dll is perfectly OK. Don't mess with the .dlls at all.

Now install the SDRC copy you just downloaded (it won't cause any issues). Now go to Definitions and re-add the RSP2 using the SDR Play V3 option (pretty sure the RSP2 won't be seen anyway if you try and use the V2 in error). Try starting it again (assuming you added is successfully).

If it still does not run, switch to a totally fresh identity in SDRC and then try starting the radio again:
https://www.sdr-radio.com/starting#Identity

If it still fails, post a screenshot of SDRC on here (full uncropped screenshot) showing the shot after you have pressed "Start" button. Make sure the "Home" tab is selected when you take the screenshot. Stupid question maybe, but are you sure it is not started but the Visual Gain is turned right down or some such?

If it is 100% sure it has not started, maybe backup all Favourites and Memories then try the SDRC Reset procedure:
https://www.sdr-radio.com/reset
